Kaptanpaşa Mosque

Part of Istanbul’s historic fabric, Kaptanpaşa Mosque stands at the junction of Kaptanpaşa Street and Suadiye Street in Eyüpsultan. Commissioned in the 16th century by Grand Admiral Mahmud Paşa, it is a modest yet expressive example of classical Ottoman architecture. Conceived within the tradition of a mosque complex, it suffered damage from fires and earthquakes and underwent significant repairs, particularly in the 18th century. With a rectangular plan and tiled roof, it offers a local, peaceful atmosphere distinct from the district’s larger imperial mosques.
